A scrappy groundhog must work with humans and forecast lightning strikes to save his home from an eco-supervillain planning to pulp entire national forests with giant, robotic milling snakes. During Jet’s first garden raid, his father is shot by their human neighbor, Mr. Trapper. Jet loses hearing in one ear and escapes alone over the electric fence, which scars his paws but gives him the unique ability to forecast lightning, in addition to supercharging his other weather-forecasting abilities. Jet vows to avenge his father, and, at the burrow security trials, he strives to win Head of Burrow Security so he can lead the groundhog community to war against Trapper. However, he finishes second to his brother Sonny when delayed at the course’s Listening Lanes. But when Jet ventures into the woods one foggy night, he learns his human neighbor is the least of his concern. Jet stumbles upon an evil genius demonstrating his secret, illegal logging plan to plunder Jet's home and the surrounding national forests with giant, mechanical snakes. One snake grinds trees into pulp and the other drills tunnels to send the pulp to the mill. To make matters worse, Jet is discovered and attacked by the Snake Saw 6000! Will Jet escape to warn his community? If he does, will they believe him? And even if they do, how will they be able to stop giant, robotic snakes?

There is quite a bit of information...but I purchased it for my 2nd grader, for a quick topical book to complete a challenge. I was a bit disappointed because it is definitely for an older age group, BUT that is my fault for not checking it out more carefully before purchasing.Product details

Great to read and easy to visualize, Groundhogs The Supercharged Forecaster, is a fun book for the entire family! The topics in this book are ones worth discussing with your children.
What a unique idea. Addressing things which can help our environment and truly entertaining. This book is not only for children but also very enjoyable for adults. Love the characters in it and how they are developed. Just try it!!!
From the first paragraphs, our scrappy groundhog hero, Jet, leads us on a high-energy, romping adventure through the Garden of Dangers into the world of humans determined to save his family and community from loggers. Kids will fear for and cheer for Jet as he becomes a remarkably accurate forecaster, faces humans and machines, makes some surprising friends and allies, and saves the family and friends he loves. This is a clever, funny, and imaginative story kids will love as they learn a little about the importance of protecting our environment.
We have known the author for several years so I wasn't surprised at the excellent writing and illustrations in this book. The young and the young-at-heart will enjoy the adventures and perils of Jet, the Groundhog. I forwarded my copy to my 11-year-old grandson who is lover of all things nature-related and he enjoyed it as much as I did. All ages will be entertained and instructed by this book. I recommend without reservation.
